MAGLIA ROSA

"Heading up the Mortirolo, there was an unexpected team at the front of the peloton. It wasn't Ineos Grenadiers setting the tempo, it was the men in light blue, Astana-Qazaqstan. They were doing this to set up their leader Vincenzo Nibali up for an attack on the descent of the famous climb".

"Carapaz took the maglia rosa from Juan Pedro López (Trek-Segafredo) on stage 14, after the Spaniard found himself detached from the contenders on the hills around Turin. Both Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious) and João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) lost time overall on stage 17, though Landa's deficit is due to Hindley and Carapaz outsprinting him to the line for some crucial bonus seconds".
